The Integrated Transport Centre Develops Transport Plan to Support Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix

As part of its objective to contribute to the success of events in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced its comprehensive plan to facilitate the mobility and transport needs during the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will run from the 24 to 26 of November on Yas Island.

ITC will utilize all means necessary to meet the event's transportation needs based on the highest international standards, thereby facilitating the safe and convenient access of the public to the venues and to the success of the F1 events taking place in emirate.

The ITC said that the traffic management team will organize and manage traffic through the Traffic Management Centre on Yas Island by calibrating traffic signals to ensure smooth traffic movement, as well as dispatching messages through traffic VMS informing the public of updates around the event area in coordination with strategic partners.

Road Service Patrols will also be provided to manage traffic, support drivers in case of accidents or vehicle breakdowns (e.g. refuelling, tire change, battery charge) as well as vehicle towing trucks to evacuate stalled vehicles from the road to the nearest safe location, ensuring the safety of all road users.

In addition, the ITC has allocated 80 public buses to transport visitors and event organizers. The buses will operate in the Yas Circuit Circular to transport users from Yas Mall parking lots, with the assembly point being at Yas Mall main gate and Warner Bros gate, and transporting the passengers to the race track gates, Yas Island hotels, and the entertainment zones. Additionally, 3 buses will be allocated to transport the event-organizing volunteers from their assembly point outside Yas Island to Yas Circuit before and after the end of their duty.

There will be 2,100 taxi vehicles allocated to serve attendees and event organizers throughout the event. A team from the ITC will organize the movement of taxis before the start of the event until its wrap-up and during the accompanying entertainment events and parties. ITC team will also be overseeing crowd management and implementing a distribution plan on all their shifts in coordination with relevant authorities, in addition to management of the premises for the boarding and disembarkation of taxi passengers, while providing support for people in crowded areas that require taxis to take them to their places of accommodation.

The ITC will transport attendees to the entrances and exits of bus and taxi stops, as well as to parking lots for visitors who brought their own vehicles. ITC will also liaise directly with the Formula 1 Administration and Abu Dhabi Police, to solve congestion problems.

Since the launch of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix, the Integrated Transport Centre has been an active strategic partner along with the organizing committee to provide transport and traffic management services for the event, in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Police, and with the help qualified Emirati task force to carry out efficient supervision especially for such a major event.

In addition to Formula 1 races, the ITC actively contributes to supporting various events hosted by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as part of its efforts to contribute to the success, and to be an active partner in the economic development of Abu Dhabi. ITC seeks to enhance the level of well-being and quality of life of the residents and visitors of Abu Dhabi by providing safe, convenient, and integrated transport services.
