Micromobility

Developing a coherent and connected network for the safe use of bikes and e-scooters and facilities is fundamental to developing an active transport culture in Abu Dhabi, including integrating these networks with land use and other transport modes, especially public transport.

Cycling is a mode of transport that is available to almost everyone. It represents the most sustainable and healthy way to travel. It also has a number of proven health benefits as well as being environmentally friendly.

AD bike infrastructure classified into 4 categories:

SHARED LANE

(walking and cycling)- lanes and/or sidewalks used by padestrians and cyclists.

BIKE LANE

painted onto the ground, and is marked with bike symbols, directional arrows and bike route signage

BIKE TRACKS

Safest cycle routes for all cyclist(beginners and Pro) off-road, away from traffic. These are convenient for races and sports events.

AUTHORIZED ROUTES

Routes that require a special permit issued by authorized entities for group riding and riding on the right side of roads that exceed speed of 60 km/hr.

  1. GIVE PRIORITY TO PEDESTIANS AND KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE.
  2. OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS, SIGN AND MARKINGS.
  3. RIDE WITH TRAFFIC FLOW NOT AGAINST IT.
  4. BIKES ARE TO BE DRIVEN IN DESIGNATED TRACKS IF ANY.
  5. BIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ROADS WITH SPEED EXCEEDING 60 KM/H- UNLESS IT HAS A PERMIT FROM CONCERNED AUTHORITIES.
  6. IF NO CYCLING TRACKS ARE AVAILABLE, RIDE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF ROADS WITH 60 KM/HR SPEED OR LESS.
  7. PARK THE BICYCLES IN THE DESIGNATED AREAS WITHOUT HINDERING THE MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES OR PEDESTIANS.
  8. STOP AT NO LESS THAN 5M FROM SCHOOL BUSES IN THE EVENT OF WARNING INDICATORS ND ALARM LEVER "STOP" IS ACTIVATED.
  9. GROUP RIDES REQUIRE SPECIAL PERMIT FROM AD POLICE

Safety Rules (stay safe):

Be visible specially during night rides

Don't use dual headsets while riding the bicycle

Avoid driving in bad weather and dark areas

Wear a protective helmet

Give signs to change direction

Do not stop suddenly

Be alert to obstacles

Don't drive to near to parked cars- Doors can open suddenly
